A family in my church has become increasingly involved with an orphanage in Haiti. Several years ago, the family adopted a little boy from Haiti, Job (who graces us with the gift of humor of his naughty antics during the Children's Story time at Church). As they were making their way through the incredibly complex task of completing the required paperwork for Job's adoption, the family fell in love with another child, a little girl named Emma. After weeks and months and years of hoping and praying and disappointment and excitement, Emma and Job both came home.
The orphanage that the kids were adopted from is called Maison Des Enfants De Deu. It is operated by an organization called For His Glory Adoption Outreach in Texas. The facility is located in central Port-Au-Prince, right on the main road called Del Mas Road. Although it is located in one of the most devastated areas of the city, initial reports are that all of the children are okay, and only one caregiver has been wounded.
Obviously, one of the many, many tragedies to spring from this one huge tragedy is that there will be many, many more children needing food, water, shelter and comfort. Many will be separated from their parents, many will have lost their parents full stop.
