Randomness At It's Most Random.

So it’s been a while since I had an actual “commute” to work. Previously, my drive-time to work was less than ten minutes or so. But my sparkly, shiny new job comes with a 25 minute commute, one way. Happily, I travel against the masses, so I rarely have to deal with much in the line of traffic. I’ve always liked driving, a commute doesn’t bother me much at all. It gives me a chance to think, to open the sunroof and enjoy the breeze. Also, I’ve had the opportunity to rekindle my relationship with NPR, my favorite source of news and interesting tidbits.

Last night, I was driving home from work a little later than normal, around 7. I had just missed All Things Considered, and wasn’t too interested in Marketplace, so I changed the station and came across the oddest thing. I heard, with my very own ears, a song called “Go Low” or something like that featuring Ludacris and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Yes. You read this correctly. ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS. I was so befuddled that I actually listened to the whole song, feeling certain that I was experiencing an audio mirage. But no. After three-ish minutes, it became clear that there was no mistake. It was not a joke at all. I hardly think my commentary on this issue is necessary, but I’ll toss it out there anyway. Because that’s what I do. Toss out my opinion when no one really wants it. But hey. You’re reading my blog, right? So anyway. On with my commentary. I MEAN. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Enough said.

That reminds me, though, of another song that I’m totally crazy about right now. Miranda Lambert has a song called “The House That Built Me” on the radio right now and it just gets me. Don’t get me wrong. I love country music, but I am totally not wild about Miranda. I’m actually not wild about young girl country artists in any case. But this song is exactly what I love about country music in general. It’s so real and so relatable right at the core of who you are. She sings about going back to the house she grew up in, looking for some connection with the little girl who grew up there.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me

You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can
I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am ...

Admittedly, a little depressing, but just very real. And who can’t relate to growing up and leaving home, and finding yourself a little lost? It just strikes a chord with me, it resonates. That is the stuff of real music and real life. Love it. Look it up, folks, you won’t be sorry. Anyway. Love to you all!
