Darby O'Neil

I am lame. I've really neglected my blogging lately, and what I have had to say...well, it's not been very enjoyable. It's not that I've run out of interesting things to say...no, not at all. In fact, I say interesting things to myself all of the time. I just forget to take the time to sit down with you all for some idle chitty-chat.

So anyway. We have added a new character to the roster of O'Neil family characters. His name is Darby O'Neil, and he looks like this:

Technically, Darby O'Neil has a lantern and the teensiest little hatchet in his hand. But since I don't have his actual portrait with me today, this generic, stand-in gnome will have to do. So Darby O'Neil resides in the flower bed in our front yard. He spends his days, standing beside a big rock. It's actually quite adorable because he looks like a little miner who just climbed out from under the boulder.

N0w, I have been known to be slightly judgmental of people who have gnomes residing in their front yards. I have even been known to utter the words "tacky as all hell" when I have seen such lawn decor. But my husband, (who has a wee bit of Irish in him, as you may have noted from the O and the apostrophe in our last name) decided that a gnome was necessary to pay homage to his ancestors. We looked for quite some time before we found little Darby. But at last, we found him and he's become an indispensable part of our landscaping.

So Darby stands guard in front of our house, a tiny little sentry who guards our home and welcomes us when we return from our travels. God bless you, little Darby.

Stay tuned for the next installment of Landscaping Blogs about the newest addition...those horrendous lady's ruffly butts that are intended to look like a plump gardener, bent over and almost showing her bits to local traffic.
